America use to be much wiser than it is now.
People knew that if you didn't work hard, you didn't eat. You were rewarded for hard work, not for doing nothing and expecting others to pay your way in life.
People knew that sex was reserved for marriage. Women who got pregnant outside of marriage knew it wasn't the right thing to do. They didn't get rewarded by the government for having babies out of wedlock. There wasn't the skyrocketing numbers of sexually transmitted diseases people are dealing with now.
People knew marriage was between a man and a woman. The way it has been in every culture since time began. They knew the best for children was having a mom and dad.
People knew pornography was wrong. Those who wanted to see it had to sneak to see it. Now if a husband is caught watching pornography and the couple goes to a psychologist, the psychologist will try to convince the wife that pornography is good for the marriage.
People knew the killing of unborn babies was wrong. They knew if they got pregnant out of wedlock, they would have to pay the consequences and have the baby. They would probably give it up for adoption to a couple that wanted a baby.
People knew that believing in God was a good thing. You could actually call Christmas "Christmas" and sing Christmas songs. Saying the pledge at the beginning of class with "one nation under God" was a requirement. Children who were naughty were punished, usually with a spanking by the principal.
People knew that poverty didn't mean violence. Their was no greater poverty in America than during the Great Depression but there was very little violence. There were values and morals and most people went to church. Now they blame violence on poverty instead of on a poverty of morals and values and lack of two parent families.
People knew the government couldn't solve all their problems. They worked hard, went to church, stayed married, disciplined their children, didn't expect hand outs, and helped each other when help was needed.
This country needs wisdom. Wisdom comes from God. A good way to teach your children wisdom is by reading from the book of Proverbs to them everyday. I still read a chapter of Proverbs every day. There are 31 chapters so you can read one chapter a day. Wisdom is a good thing. Teach your children to be wise.
For wisdom is better than rubies; and all things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
Proverbs 8:11
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
