Looking at dictionary.com we find the meaning of the word "pursuit" defined as: an effort to secure or attain.
Looking to the Bible for insight we find these words written to the church in Philippi, and with all of the Olympic coverage, I can't help but be reminded of it time and again as Paul is pressing on to the goal ahead.
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 3:13&14, NIVWith that said, I have to be honest. When it comes to life, I'm not a gold medalist. In fact I'm not even cut out for the bronze. I'm the girl in last place huffing and puffing long after the others have received their applause. But win or lose I press on toward the the goal to win the prize for which GOD has called me heavenward.
I received a letter the other day from a reader who said, "I haven't been reading your blog for long, but I am going to be honest to you, I was feeling intimidated, lousy, imperfect!!! I felt so ashamed as a woman and mother when I would read, how can I measure up, I want to, what's my problem, wow this lady really has it together! I wasn't reading so much anymore cause I felt so inferior."
Before some of you come to my defense on this, let me also say that her letter in its entirety was an encouragement. She was thankful that "Grab a Glass Half-Full of Acceptance," gave her the assurance that other women are every bit as human as she is.
Writing is a challenging job, and one that I don't take lightly. While I apologize that I have failed some of you, I pray that He continues to shape me in this area because I know that I still have a long way to go. A good writer should be able to both motivate and encourage you along the way.
My heart's desire is to inspire you to a life of pursuit not perfection.
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. ~ Philippians 3:12, NIVMore you you, Lord ~ less of me...
